In a shocking turn of events, gospel musician Dishon Mirugi narrowly escaped death after his wife, Pastor Elizabeth Wanjiru, allegedly planned to commit suicide and take him with her. Fortunately, two things saved him from his tragic fate – CCTV footage and the fact that he was not home to eat the poisoned food.

The detectives who worked on Elizabeth’s death did an outstanding job of piecing everything together, thanks in part to the evidence gathered. They managed to clear Mirugi of any wrongdoing after examining his alibi, witness statements, CCTV footage, Mpesa transactions, and the evidence collected at the scene.

It is believed that Elizabeth had prepared a meal laced with poison for Mirugi before committing suicide. However, Mirugi wasn’t home to eat it, which ultimately saved his life. The circumstantial evidence also suggests that Elizabeth was depressed and struggling with debts amounting to Ksh 1.2 million owed to several people in Nakuru.

Unlike in Jeff Mwathi’s case, where the lack of evidence hindered the investigation, detectives were able to reconstruct the scene and gather eyewitness accounts. Forensic audits and cyber extraction of communications between the deceased and Mirugi provided further insight into their relationship.

Interestingly, the CCTV footage from a petrol station where Mirugi refueled earlier that day played a crucial role in establishing his alibi. Detectives matched the time stamps on the footage with the time Mirugi sent messages and made calls to Elizabeth. They were able to confirm that he was not present at the house during the time of her death.

The importance of CCTV cannot be understated in this case. It provided irrefutable proof of Mirugi’s whereabouts, allowing him to clear his name and escape certain death. This case is a reminder of the critical role that technology can play in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
