New details have emerged on how key political allies of President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga have been misusing public funds. A new report from the Auditor General has exposed how Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Lang’ata MP Jalang’o have mismanaged public money.
The report, which looks at the use of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), shows that millions of shillings cannot be accounted for. These funds were meant for bursaries and key development projects in their constituencies.
In Kapseret, Sudi is unable to explain how Ksh44 million meant for bursaries was spent. Another Ksh2 million, reportedly used for committee activities, has no proper records. Additionally, Ksh1.2 million deducted from allowances for tax purposes was never sent to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
These missing records raise concerns about whether the money was used correctly. Jalang’o’s Lang’ata Constituency also has similar problems. According to the audit millions of shillings given for bursaries cannot be traced. Schools that were supposed to receive the money have no proof that they got it. This brings up serious questions about where the funds actually went.
This issue is not just about these two MPs. Many other constituencies also have cases of missing records, incomplete projects, and unexplained expenses. However, Sudi and Jalang’o’s cases stand out because of the huge amounts involved. The lack of answers and accountability in these funds affects many people, especially students who depend on bursaries for their education.
The report has sparked concerns about how MPs are handling public money. Many Kenyans are now wondering if these funds are really being used to help communities or if they are being misused. So far, the two MPs have not given a clear explanation for these financial irregularities.
