Vocal lawyer Prof Fred Ogolla has now revealed that former prime minister Raila Odinga accepted defeat in August 2022 presidential election after Supreme Court of Kenya’s verdict. He claimed that Raila did so indirectly when the former prime minister argued that he respected the court’s decision.

According to Prof Ogolla who was speaking on TV on Monday morning, when Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Martha Koome upheld election of president William Ruto in 2022, Raila conceded defeat when he respected the ruling, although he did not agree with it. He began by alleging that the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition was popularizing Raila unknowingly by spending a lot of time fighting him politically. He also opined that the alliance was making the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss gain affection of Kenyans by failing to deliver services to Kenyans as it promised in the run up 2022 polls.

“Kenya Kwanza is making Raila relevant. When Raila said ‘we respect the opinion of Supreme Court although we vehemently disagree with their decision’, it was as good as him conceding defeat. But the misdoings of this gov’t meant he had to come back,” said Prof Ogolla.

This comes after Raila led the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance in organizing and executing rigorous criticism against Kenya Kwanza administration over failure to implement pre-elction pledges. Other leaders in the coalition who have backed him up include NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua, Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya chief Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and several elected leaders.

The leading opposition team has planned and implemented a number of demonstrations as it decried the high cost of living and lack of electoral justice. These protests kicked off in March 20th and there were specific days of the week that the picketing took place.

However, the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance have called off demonstrations after president Ruto called for a by-partisan dialogue in Parliament. The talks will kick off soon after the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance and Kenya Kwanza formed committees of seven members each.
