Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya found himself in a heated confrontation on Monday after he criticized President William Ruto’s policies during a funeral. The incident occurred at the home of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, where Natembeya was invited to speak by Kakamega MCA Joel Okwako.
While addressing the mourners, Natembeya, leader of the ‘Tawe’ movement, voiced his displeasure with the government’s handling of key issues, including the Social Health Authority and university funding. He condemned President Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Speaker Moses Wetangula, calling for an end to bad leadership and corruption.
However, his speech took a turn when the crowd grew hostile. As Natembeya continued his criticism, his microphone was abruptly switched off, forcing him to speak without amplification. The situation escalated when the crowd started chanting pro-Ruto slogans, prompting Natembeya to flee in his car as stones were thrown at his motorcade.
The heated exchange highlights the growing political tensions in the region, as leaders align themselves with or against President Ruto’s administration. The event also underscores the challenges faced by leaders like Natembeya, who are attempting to challenge the status quo amidst fierce opposition.
