A driver has recounted how a passenger urgently switched matatus after expressing frustration about his initial vehicle’s slow pace.The passenger, seemingly anxious about reaching his destination on time, claimed he was bound for court appearances in Nyamira and Naivasha.

The driver facilitated the passenger’s transfer to another matatu upon his insistence for a faster journey Tragically, the matatu the passenger switched to met with a fatal accident on Ngata Bridge shortly after departure, killing him and several others.

A driver has narrated how one of the victims of the early-morning Ngata Bridge accident had just switched matatus after complaining of being in a hurry.

The driver narrated that the passenger had boarded his vehicle early in the morning, but he was seemingly in a hurry as he complained incessantly about his vehicle travelling at a snail’s pace.

Speaking to the media, the driver said that mid-journey, he was forced to connect the passenger to the ill-fated PSV as he insisted he needed a speedy vehicle. “I carried that passenger in my vehicle, but he started complaining that he was in a hurry. He said he was heading to court in Nyamira and Naivasha,” the driver said in a video shared by Tv.

“So he called my colleague who was driving the vehicle that has since crashed. He had his number. He made a lot of noise in my vehicle about how he would be late, so I found it wise to let him switch to the other matatu he wanted,” he narrated.

The driver of the ill-fated matatu would wait for the passenger at a Total Petrol station, as the man had requested.”The driver waited for the man who was in a hurry at a petrol station, and we ensured he safely boarded the matatu as he had wished.

He sat in the front seats with the driver. They did not even travel for a long distance when the vehicle crashed on Ngata bridge. The man, the driver and the conductor all perished,” the driver narrated. He also revealed that the driver and conductor were brothers.
