The recent incident of athlete Ferdinand Omanyala allegedly being denied a Visa has aroused sad memories in some Kenyans.
This is because they know too well how painful it is to brag to the whole village that you are going abroad only to be denied a Visa.
Omanyala is in a last-minute rush to obtain the visa and arrive in Oregon in time for the 100m preliminaries set for the opening day of the championships on Friday.
Speaking during the Morning Conversation on Classic 105, Mwalimu Kin’gang’i says most Kenyan joke too much;
“Hakuna Mkenya anakuwanga na documents. The problem is that in the Embassy you cannot use corruption or connections when you are getting a passport. Ask me about that pain of being denied a Visa.”
Adding,
“My friend has been denied a Visa 7 times mpaka security guards wanamjua. He says the day they give him a Visa he will never come back.”
*Sheila who works for the Diplomatic Missions says Kenyans take their last-minute rush even to the Embassy.
“I work for Diplomatic missions. My advice to them is to have the right documents and submit them in time.
People want to travel on short notice. Some people apply for a week to travel. Most people are traveling for training, leisure, etc.”
*Ken says he has been denied a visa twice;
“I had applied for a work visa, I didn’t have a bank statement so I was denied the Visa. The employer gave me all the documents and I applied again and the second time I carried everything. But the guy was asking irrelevant questions just to deny me the chance.”
Ms. Hadithi says most athletes are suffering the same fate as Omanyala in South Africa.
“Omanyala is not the only one who hasn’t or fail to make it to Oregon. Some SA athletes are stranded in Italy because of a visa hitch. Meanwhile, a Jamaican sprinter had the government intervene and he got an emergency visa.”
Peshy_E said,
“We had to stream my sister’s wedding and see someone else walking her down the Isle yet my mum should have been the one #MainaAndKingangi.”
