During the homecoming ceremony of the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in Kisii County today on March 24, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sparked laughter when he lamented to President William Ruto for what he termed going against his “shares” criteria to award members of the Gusii region state appointments.

The DP who has on numerous occasions said that state appointments in the Ruto administration will be done based on the “shares” criteria, where those who highly voted for the government will be accorded preference over others lamented that the President seems to have gone against that criteria in his appointment of members of the Gusii region to various government positions.

That as the self-declared enforcer of that rule at State House, he was overlooked by the Head of State in his award of the Gusii region with appointments.

That going by his criteria, the region actually received five times more appointments than what it should’ve received relative to its contributions or rather votes that it gave William Ruto in the last general election.

On this, he started by saying that “we really appreciate you people of Kisii for the votes that you gave William Ruto but I must say that when it comes to rewarding people, you normally reward that person who has never done anything for you at the expense of that who has done much for you. Are you fair? Are you really fair?”

He then added that “anyway, I must admit that I didn’t understand what was going on because I bet you already know that I am the one in charge of shares in William Ruto’s Government.

When he is awarding state appointments, I’m normally there with a calculator to tell him that let those who planted be the first ones to harvest and those who didn’t sow will as well reap but they’ll have to wait.

But I have come to understand today why my friend the President went against that criteria of mine. My brother the President umenilalia.

What you have given them is 5 times their rightful share in this government of yours, and I have understood that the President is your son and that’s why he has favoured you as a community.”

“I want to tell you that this man William Ruto has a big heart. A good heart and he loves your community and I wants to demonstrate his heart and love for this great community by showing you the men and women has brought to his government to assist him in the management of the affairs of the government, despite the fact that a majority of you did not believe in him,” he told his audience as he paraded Gusii region leaders who have been appointed to various state positions.
