Amid ongoing court battles, Mwengi Mutuse has urged impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to “give way to wisdom.” Speaking in Tharaka Nithi County, Mutuse stressed the weight of democratic numbers, referencing the National Assembly and Senate’s overwhelming votes to oust Gachagua.
“Since the votes were cast, I’ve avoided public gatherings to prevent any perception of conflict,” he said. “But it’s essential to understand that even strength must yield to wisdom. Tell Gachagua that in a democracy, numbers matter—282 MPs against 44, and 53 senators against 13 voted for change. Those numbers speak volumes.”
Mutuse, who led the impeachment motion, highlighted the significance of these numbers as a reflection of the people’s voice. Meanwhile, a three-judge bench handling the impeachment case rejected an application to recuse themselves, allowing the hearing to proceed. A ruling on the matter is set for October 29 at 10 a.m., where the conservatory orders blocking the swearing-in of a new deputy president will be reviewed.
