Kenyan musician Akothee has announced her decision to stop attending functions in Migori County, citing persistent security concerns and repeated instances of humiliation during public events.

In a public statement shared on her Facebook page, the self-proclaimed “President of Single Mothers” expressed disappointment over the mistreatment she claims to have endured since returning to Migori County in 2022.

Despite her efforts to build and support the local community, Akothee says she has been met with hostility from certain individuals, particularly politicians.

“Whenever I attend a public function, whether a burial or an event involving politicians, my team often struggles to secure a place for me to sit, even when I have been invited,” she wrote.

She detailed instances where security personnel led her to areas without seats, leaving her feeling humiliated and vulnerable.

Akothee extended gratitude to Mama Dorothy Nyong’o, the Kisumu County First Lady, for often stepping in to support her during such incidents

. “She will give me her seat and remain standing until another one is brought for her,” Akothee noted, highlighting the lack of respect she has encountered.

The award-winning artist also dismissed calls to attend an upcoming function in Migori, stating that her decision to boycott county events was final.

“They don’t seem to understand my work ethics, nor do they respect the fact that I am a brand, a public figure, a celebrity, and someone loved and celebrated in my own space,” she said.

While clarifying that she currently has no political ambitions, Akothee emphasized her right to vie for office should she choose to.

She urged Migori residents to focus on their work while assuring them of her love and eventual return.
