Karungo wa Thang’wa, a senator from Kiambu and the chairperson of the Senate Roads and Transportation Committee, took advantage of the opportunity to ask two pointed questions that go right to the core of Kenyan politics. Senator Thang’wa delivered a biting critique with his trademark accuracy and unwavering focus, establishing himself as a brave steward of the public’s confidence.

Senator Thang’wa, speaking with the gravity of his position, praised the President for his renewed readiness to revoke controversial rulings, including the now-canceled Adani concessions involving the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The senator did not hold back when revealing the negative aspects of these U-turns, though.

“Although it is admirable that the government is paying attention, it is important to consider the cost of this indecision.” Thang’wa roared, his words laden with expectancy and indignation. “Has the cancellation of these agreements caused Kenya to suffer any financial damages, and if so, to what extent? Who will be responsible for these losses, more significantly?

By asking these questions, Thang’wa put the administration under pressure to show that changing direction does not free it of responsibility. Many saw the cancelation of the Adani deals as a triumph for public opposition, but the euphoria has been clouded by the senator’s incisive questions, which call for responsibility and transparency.

Thang’wa’s criticism also demonstrated his desire to take action. He promised that this issue will not be ignored in his capacity as Senate Chairperson on Roads and Transportation.

“We will thoroughly examine it, and the results will be released to the public.” Thang’wa put down the gauntlet with these remarks, bringing the President into the spotlight and ushering in a new era of accountability. One thing is evident as Kenya waits and observes: Senator Thang’wa is committed to making sure the truth wins out.
