Marianne Kitany is without any doubt one of the key allies of President William Ruto. Not only in the Rift Valley region but Kenya at large. She is the Member of Parliament for Aldai Constituency in Nandi County and was elected on a United Democratic Alliance Party ticket. The vocal MP is synonymous with gracing TV screens for interviews and debates.

When the impeachment motion of Rigathi Gachagua was tabled in Parliament, she supported it, just like other politicians allied to the President. However, this morning while at K24 TV which is under MediaMax, she has revealed that there was a hurry in the gazettement of Professor Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President Nominee because MPs did not want a power vacuum.

“We don’t have a functioning IEBC in place. Assuming anything would have happened to the President, the speaker is supposed to call an election, without an IEBC. That would lead to a constitutional crisis. There was a hurry because we needed to fill the DP power vacuum.” Kitany said.

The High Court, in Kerugoya and Milimani issued conservatory orders staying the decision of the National Assembly on approval of Interior Security and Administration Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki as Rigathi Gachagua’s replacement. The three-judge bench sitting at Nairobi will deliver a ruling, lifting the order or otherwise.

Kindiki is yet to be sworn into office as the Deputy President.
