In a tragic incident, Murang’a County Police Commander, Mathiu Kaingi, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident involving a matatu. The accident occurred on the Thika-Murang’a Highway in the Kabati area.

 

According to reports, a personal car, believed to be driven by an intoxicated individual, swerved and collided with another vehicle. The impact caused the second car to roll into the opposite lane, where it was struck by an overspeeding bus. Four people died as a result, including Commander Kaingi.

The driver responsible for the initial collision fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities. Murang’a North Traffic Commander, Silas Andiema, confirmed that the driver of the 14-seater matatu disappeared after the crash.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of road safety in the region. In a separate accident, three people died and several others were injured in a collision involving two matatus along the Murang’a-Kenol highway.

The loss of Commander Kaingi is a significant blow to the Murang’a community and the police force. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in apprehending the hit-and-run driver. They also emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of a dedicated officer whose life was cut short due to reckless driving. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for responsible behavior on the roads to ensure the safety of all.
