A woman known as Annette Githinji is thanking God for saving her life, but she’s sad that a person she loved and trusted almost killed her. She narrated that on 2nd November 2022, her ex-boyfriend told her that he had been kicked out by his landlord because of rent. Since she had left her house in Kasarani to stay with her parents, she allowed him to stay at her house.
The next day, he asked her to bring him food and she cooked from her parent’s house and took them. After eating, he asked her about life and she proudly said she had moved on from their abusive relationship.
Githinji says these seemed to irk him and he snatched her phone and called the person she was dating that time. He asked the two questions then told her to kneel to ask for forgiveness. He went on to kick her on the face, stamp his foot on her back, punching her on the face and pressing his knee on her neck to choke her.
He held her hostage for several hours until her family who were worried about her safety came to her house. The man had instructed her to close the curtains, lock the house and turn off the lights to prevent people from knowing they’re inside.
But minutes later, she heard her mother shouting, “fungua mlango ama nivunje.” She also heard the voice of her father and she got thankful she was alive.
Her father decided to hold the man in her house as they went to report at Kasarani Police Station. But they were allegedly told that there were not enough officers to go arrest him. The delay made the man to escape into thin air at night.
After going for medical examinations, it confirmed that she got a cracked cranium and eardrums perforated. She was warned to avoid noises or swimming. He began to send threats to her but on 24th June this year, he was arrested at Ngong Road.
She says her life has changed as she lives in fear. She says that the man was arraigned in court and got released on a bond of Ksh200,000. Githinji has said she is in fear and wants the delayed justice to be delivered.
