Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo recently made headlines by revealing why President William Ruto never proposed to her. The revelation came during a public event in Homa Bay, where she reflected on their shared past as university classmates.

Odhiambo and Ruto crossed paths years ago at the University of Nairobi, where they were both students. At that time, neither could foresee the prominent roles they would eventually assume. Ruto went on to become President, while Odhiambo secured a position as an MP.

Their relationship evolved from being political allies in the ODM party to becoming rivals when Ruto left the party to join the Jubilee Alliance. This shift led to a tense period, particularly highlighted by Odhiambo’s vocal opposition to Ruto’s presidency.

Despite their political differences, Odhiambo recently reminisced about their past and hinted at a missed romantic opportunity. She jokingly lamented that if Ruto had been more perceptive during their university days, she might have been married to him instead of her current husband, Magugu Mabona, a Zimbabwean.

Odhiambo’s comments were met with mixed reactions. While she shared a light-hearted moment about their past, Ruto did not address the remarks directly. Instead, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa seized the opportunity to playfully suggest that he might step in for Ruto in the quest for unity.

This interaction highlights the complex interplay between personal history and public life, showcasing how past relationships and political affiliations can intersect in unexpected ways. As always, it’s a matter if wait and see of what unfolds going into the future given the prevailing political circumstances in the country.
