A section of former Meru Members of County Assembly has claimed that Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary, Franklin Mithika Linturi, and ex-governor Kiraitu Murungi were fighting the current governor Kawira Mwangaza because the latter would win 2027 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries.
“They knew that after Mwangaza joined UDA, she would secure the party ticket,” said one of them.
In a live press statement delivered on Monday, the ex-MCAs accused Linturi and Kiraitu of meddling in Meru county politics instead of delivering services to Kenyans through the appointive positions given to them by president William Ruto.
They alleged that Linturi had monetarily influenced majority of Meru MCAs to ensure that Mwangaza’s political mettle and future were destroyed. They accused him of abusing his ministerial post by engaging in politics and alleged bribery contrary to the constitutional stipulations.
The former lawmakers took a swipe at Kiraitu for engaging in political war with the sitting governor at the expense of delivering on his mandate as the chairperson of Kenya Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
The group called on president Ruto to lay off Linturi and Kiraitu and consider replacing them with competent individuals from Meru who could deliver on their mandates and act ethically.
This comes after Meru MCAs impeached governor Mwangaza for the second on account of abuse of office. An overwhelming number of the lawmakers voted to sent her home. The matter is awaiting Senate’s injunction.
Mwangaza was impeached for the first time earlier this year but the Senate saved her when it voted against the impeachment.
