Fatuma Ahmed is her name. She was Kenya’s first female Brigadier and the first woman to be promoted Major General in the police service. Maj Gen Ahmed joined the Kenya Defense Forces in 1983 as a member of the Women Service Corps. In 1985, she was promoted to Second Lieutenant and assigned to the Kenya Air Force. In her 34 years of service, she has held the following positions: Battalion Second in Command (BN 2IC), Staff Officer II Audit Personnel and Records, Staff Officer I Personnel and Administration, Colonel Personnel at Kenya Air Force Headquarters, and Managing Director, Defense Forces Medical Insurance Scheme.
Maj Gen Ahmed is a graduate of the National Defense College, which is affiliated with the University of Nairobi’s Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies. She also graduated from the Defense Staff College in July 2000, and she has a Diploma in Management from Strathmore University College.
