Gido Kibukosya is a celebrated Kenyan musician and music producer, renowned for his influence in the country’s music industry. Born into a musically talented family, Kibukosya was the only son among ten siblings.

His father, a musician, nurtured his early love for music. Gido pursued his education at St. George’s Primary and St. Mary’s Secondary in Nairobi before studying sound engineering at UCLA, where he met music legends like Tracy Chapman and U2.

His career began in 1982 when he formed the band Hypertension in high school. Later, he joined African Heritage, gaining exposure in Europe. Kibukosya’s interest in sound engineering grew, leading him to found Samawati Productions, where he worked with top Kenyan artists such as Mercy Myra and K-South Flavour.

Despite his success, Gido’s personal life was marred by struggles with relationships and alcoholism. He fathered five children with different women and had a high-profile marriage with Suzanne Gachukia, which ended in 2007. The couple’s sons, Marcus and Miles, were members of the famous Camp Mulla band.

Gido’s battle with alcoholism peaked after his separation from Suzanne, leading him to rehab in 2012. His youngest sons encouraged him to seek treatment, and he has remained sober since. Today, Gido continues to mentor young artists through his company Creative Hub Productions and the Kibukosya Music Foundation.

In his personal life, Gido became the father-in-law to Raila Odinga Jr. in 2011 when his daughter Yvonne married the son of the ODM leader. Gido describes Raila Jr. as a humble son-in-law and cherishes the bond between the two families.
