At one point, Flying Squad was one of the most feared police units in the country. So lethal that the unit was that criminals faced it rough.

Those were the glory days of Flying Squad before it was disbanded by former DCI boss George Kinoti.

It was Flying Squad that introduced Gideon Munga Nyale into the limelight. Nyale was one of the last commandants of the unit before its disbandment.

After leaving Flying Squad, Nyale was appointed as the Commandant of another lethal police unit: the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.

Nyale would later be appointed as the principal assistant to the former Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai.

After Mutyambai’s exit from office in 2022, he crossed over to serve the new IG Japheth Koome in the same capacity.

He would later be appointed as the director of Police operations at police headquarters. And in April 2023, the former Flying Squad commando was picked to head the Police Training College-Kiganjo to succeed Bruno Shioso who was moved to head the Kenya Coast Guard Services.

And now, Nyale is the man at the heart of police training in the country. Some believe that he might be the future police boss in Kenya.
