The rapper has been denied bail on his first appearance in the law court after he was arrested Thursday night for brandishing a gun on social media.
Medikal pleaded not guilty to the charge of displaying firearms and ammunition.
The lead counsel for the rapper, Emmanuel Yeboah Gyan, prayed the court to grant his client bail as he is a law-abiding citizen and had family on standby to meet the bail conditions.
But the prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the individual rights of Medikal to bail are subservient to the community interest which ought to be protected. He further argued that parts of the case are still under investigation.
The rapper’s wife, Fala Makafui and some members of his management team were sighted at the court premises ahead of the sitting.
Medikal’s arrest on Thursday came just hours after his industry mate and friend, Shatta Wale, was remanded in police custody for two weeks.
Medikal will be having a good time with his colleague dancehall musician who was sent to the same correctional facility by an Accra Circuit Court on Thursday, October 21, 2020, to be on remand for a week.
