According to reports, the Nation Media Group has failed to bow to CS Moses Kuria’ s remarks that hinted at dealing with them for exposing the government.

In a letter to the trade Cabinet Secretary, the Nation Media Group took a tough stance against CS Kuria for issuing threats to journalists with intentions of selling fear to them. They have demanded an immediate apology from Moses Kuria for pledging to cut government advertisements assigned to the Nation Media. The Nation Media Group stated that Moses Kuria’ s behavior is detrimental to the progress the country has made. It is widely known that the eras of dictatorship died with post independence presidents.

The Nation Media Group made it crystal clear that the Trade cabinet secretary ought to have used the complaints mechanisms to raise alarm over the broadcasting by Nation Media Group. Nation Media argued that CS Kuria could have even gone to court to file a petition rather than issuing threats in social media. The media stated that CS Kuria’ s utterances are equivalent to unprovoked verbal attack and, in essence, a declaration of a commercial war on journalists.

The Nation Media Group also implied that the CS was annoyed by the Nation Media’ s decision to reveal how public money was lost in a questionable duty- free edible oil import scam that was allegedly orchestrated by the Kenya National Trading Corporation, which is part of Moses Kuria’ s Ministry of Trade. In addition, the media claimed that CS Kuria lack the legal authority to scrap its main source of income for exposing the shortcomings of the government.

It did, however, point out that Kuria’ s statements put further pressure on the media, which has a duty to keep the government accountable. The trade cabinet secretary’ s verbal assault on Nation Media Group, according to the media, is a complete shame to the government of Kenya. They described CS Kuria’ s comments as crude and reprehensible since Kenyans expect Kuria to behave himself with decency.
