Comedian MC Jessy has opened up about his family background. Speaking to Mpasho.co.ke, the Imenti South aspiring MP said he was born and raised in Meru county.
“I studied and lived in South Imenti but came to hustle in Nairobi. So, people in Meru know me as their mhesh since kitambo, I talk about my people everywhere I go including when on TV.”
Speaking about being an MP, Jessy said Imenti people receive him well.
“I am waiting to be sworn in. We are doing our best every day and people are receiving us well. They don’t know me as the MC Jessy the entertainer. They know me as their incoming mheshimiwa running under UDA party,” he said.
Jessy said he was born in a polygamous family and his dad died when he was in lower primary and his mum passed on when he was doing his class 8 exam.
“I was like two years and my mum died when I was in class 8. We are many, I have brothers and I grew up in a society full of love. My dad had children from another wife, my mum had two children. I come from a polygamous family. We are on good terms in all of them. We have never known the differences. Some uncles, I used to think they are my brothers since we grew up together. Meru culture doesn’t make you feel like you don’t belong. People love me, the only problem is that they were poor. I felt alone when I came to Nairobi.”
Jessy said he came to Nairobi with three missions; to study, pursue a comedy career, and change his community after.
“After one year of not going to form one, one of my relatives sponsored me to go to school. After form four, life was hard and I decided to come to Nairobi and hustle. Those days, I used to make people laugh while plucking tea and so on, but I did not know I would end up on that path,” he said.
He is now vying for an MP seat in South Imenti.
“The elders in my society came and said they wanted me to become their leader.”
