Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a positive Premier League Chelsea fixture scenario ahead of the busy December schedule. The Blues take on Everton this Sunday at Goodison Park with the aim of bouncing back from their disappointing defeat to Manchester United earlier this week.
In the last few weeks, Chelsea’s form has been mixed with the gap to the top four getting bigger each week. The Blues beat European rivals Brighton the previous weekend but prior to that were comfortably beaten by Champions League hopefuls Newcastle.
The last two weeks perfectly highlights how Chelsea’s season has gone thus far and going off the trend, Chelsea are set for a victory against Everton this Sunday. However, the Toffees are in excellent form with wins in the last seven days over Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
From their challenging fixture run-in, which started against Arsenal in late October, the Blues have taken seven points from a possible 21. While that is not the best return, it will look very good in hindsight if Pochettino’s side take a hefty amount of points from their next five games before the end of 2023.
And according to OptaAnalyst, Chelsea are judged to have the easiest next five fixtures, without including Manchester City who play four league games, with an opponent average rating of 84. At the opposite end, Arsenal and Crystal Palace are are said to have the most difficult fixtures over the comings weeks.
Following their clash with Everton, Chelsea travel to Wolves and Luton while also welcoming Sheffield United and Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge. Taking maximum points from those matches will be very important for any remaining top-four hopes.
In between the league games, Chelsea also take on Newcastle in Carabao Cup action. Before Saturday afternoon’s matches, the Blues are 11 points off the Champions League qualification places and while there is still over 20 games left to play, the west Londoners will need to start picking up points more consistently if they are to crash the top four party.
