The National Dialogue Committee has been informed by three out of the four former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners that they were compelled to quit.

As a result of President William Ruto appointing a tribunal headed by Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule to investigate their actions in the 2022 elections, Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya said they were compelled to resign from their positions. However, they chose not to appear before the tribunal.

Irene Masit, the fourth commissioner, appeared before the tribunal, which in its recommendation suggested that she be removed from office, to which she also tendered her resignation.

“We never tallied the results from the constituencies and they were tallied by a handpicked number of people who worked with the chairman,” said Wanderi.

He asserted that Wanderi, Cherera, Masit, and Nyang’aya were denied access to Form 34C, which is the Presidential results form, and that Professor Abdi Guliye and the CEO of Commissions were among those “handpicked” to conduct the tallying.

Masit said that the counting and verification of election results that took place at Kenya’s Bomas during the 2022 elections was not true.

She continued by saying that the chairwoman had kicked them out of their subcommittees and given them responsibilities outside of their purview.

“So far, we are unaware of the results, and it is crucial that we audit them,” she said.

Masit and Cherera claimed to be exiles for security reasons; Masit claimed to have not been inside her house since the results of the 2022 elections were released.

Masit claimed that despite being intimidated, she did not call the police.
