The fallen world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum will be laid to rest next Saturday, February 24, 2024 at their family home in Kaptagat.

This is according to the family, which on Wednesday announced that burial arrangements have begun with the formation of the funeral committee that will lead the process and also keep the public informed on the plans.

Kiptum was killed on Sunday night following a grisly road accident at Kaptagat area on the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road.

He was killed alongside his Rwandese coach Garvais Hakizimana.

A post-mortem exercise was also conducted on the body of Hakizimana at the Eldoret hospital and overseen by Dr. Benson Macharia.

The exercise, which took one hour, was witnessed by the coach’s family and Kelvin’s widow Assenete Kiptum. They, however, chose not to disclose the results.

A fundraiser has been scheduled for this Saturday, February 17, at Kiptum’s home at Chepsamoo village in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Meanwhile calls for inquest intensified today with DAP-Kenya leader and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the accident.
