Political Commentator Professor Herman Manyora has broken his silence on the ongoing anti-government protests by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance team led by Raila Odinga.

Raila called for the demos on Wednesday, today and tomorrow, owing to President William Ruto’s decision to sign in to law the Finance Bill 2023.

Through his You Tube Channel on Thursday, Manyora argued that the bold stands by both Raila and President Ruto might end up costing the country its peace.

Reacting to President Ruto’s remarks in Kericho yesterday and Isiolo today, that there is no handshake and the government will protect lives of Kenyans and their property, Manyora urged the Head of State to soften his heart, act as the bigger brother and reach out to Raila, not for a handshake, but for deliberations that will reduce the political tension in the country.

“The easier way to end this nonsense is sitting down with Raila. Let people talk what they want to talk, as long as you are still the big brother. The worst thing is to have this continue and you are pushed out of power.”

“Just like Archbishop Muheria said, I do not think this government has empathy. I respect the government and President Ruto, but I would want to assure him that there is nothing the government will gain by remaining bullish.”

“The direction of peace is the direction to go, forget any other route that continues to undermine the country’s pace. Ruto should know that if this country do not have peace, he will not govern as he would have expected for his five years,” said the University of Nairobi lecturer.

Manyora’s remarks comes shortly after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking in Isiolo County dismissed requests by the clergy and international community to have President Ruto sit down with Raila to avert more demos.
