A retired primary school teacher from the village of Chepkumia in Nandi County was arrested by DCI officers following the unexplained death of his wife on February 14.

When she was sleeping, Rose Jerono Ng’asura was stabbed in the left side of the chest, according to the autopsy results.

Preliminary inquiries have shown that Zachariah Ng’asura, her 53-year-old husband, and one of their daughters were there at the time of the incident, which occurred about midnight.

The police said the couple had a history of domestic tension.

On Valentine’s day, the suspect allegedly put Jerono in his car, saying he was taking her to the nearest hospital for emergency care.

A relative told authorities that the father of six drove past the Kapkangani Health Centre and stopped at the Kapsasur market for almost an hour while his injured wife bled and was tortured in agony.

The Nandi County DCI, Douglas Chikanda, said the deceased woman’s husband was arrested and is being treated as the prime suspect.

The authorities asked locals for any details they might have about the circumstances surrounding Jerono’s death.
