On Thursday, January 2, Malkia Strikers and Kenya Pipeline players carried Janet Wanja’s casket to the Kasarani Indoor Arena, marking her final visit to the venue where she rose to stardom.The volleyball legend, whose remarkable career inspired countless players, will be laid to rest on Friday, January 3, at Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi.

Charles Nyaberi, president of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) and a member of the funeral committee, confirmed the burial plans, noting that the ceremony will be private, with attendance limited to family, close friends, and dignitaries.

Wanja, a former Malkia Strikers trainer, served the team during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the World Challenger Cup in the Philippines.Her journey in volleyball began at Mukumu Girls High School, where she emerged as a standout talent, later joining KCB and Kenya Pipeline in her club career.

Diagnosed with cancer, Wanja had been undergoing treatment at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.

Her legacy as a player and mentor will remain etched in Kenya’s volleyball history, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
