The Kenya Kwanza government is ready to help create the office of the Opposition Leader for Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has said.
He has made the remarks while adding that Kenya Kwanza is ready to listen to Raila’s concerns, which have resulted in the former Prime Minister declaring demonstrations against President William Ruto.
Raila has blamed his demos on Ruto’s refusal to listen to him and look into his demands, and has vowed to sustain the protests twice a week until the Head of State gives in and cooperates.
Malala now says that the government is ready to help Raila get the opposition boss seat, a constitutional position, and engage him from there, as Kenya Kwanza believes in doing things constitutionally.
“We have proposed a law to establish the office of the opposition so that we engage with him in a structured manner,” the former Kakamega senator said on Spice FM on Wednesday.
He made the remarks only hours after noting that there will be no kind of talks between the two sides, while dismissing Raila as a man merely after a truce.
Speaking on Tuesday, Malala had also claimed that Raila and his side have been trying to negotiate with Ruto for a handshake at night, declaring that the alleged efforts will not succeed.
“We want to assure them that this time round we are very focused. The people ( Azimio) talk to us at night and what they are bargaining for is simply a handshake,” he had said.
His allegations are despite Raila’s insistence that he is not interested in a handshake. Raila has held that he should be the one on the throne, accusing Ruto of rigging him out in the August 2022 presidential race.
