After almost four decades of military service, one of the most experienced Kenya Defence Forces Generals is set to bow out in 2024 after attaining mandatory retirement age for officers of his rank.

Former Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General, Lieutenant General Mohamed Badi, will be 61 years in 2024.

In line with the Tonje Rules which have always been the guiding principle of all military operations in the country for the last over two decades, a three-star general will retire at 61.

Lt General Badi, the former Moi Air Base- Eastleigh Commandant, is one of the three Lieutenant Generals in the country alongside Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt General Jonah Maina Mwangi and Kenya Army Commander Lt General Peter Mbogo Njiru.

In 2020, he was appointed as NMS boss by the then President Uhuru. A year later, he was promoted to the rank of Lt General and emerged as one of the front runners for the CDF position alongside General Francis Ogolla, who ended up edging him out in that titanic battle.

The looming retirement of Lt General Badi means that there could be a major military shakeup especially in the Kenya Air Force considering that National Defence College Commandant Major General Rashid Elmi, has also surpasses retirement age.
