Maina Njenga, the former leader of the Mungiki tribe, was present at Raila Amollo Odinga’s rally at the Kamukunji Grounds.
As hundreds of Azimio supporters from throughout the country went to the grounds to hear his impassioned address. Njenga’s elation was palpable. He astonished many people when he advised Raila to use his intelligence and discretion during protests.
Maina Njenga claims that it has been challenging for those living in the Greater Mount area to avoid going to his Demos.
“…..Baba mimi lazima niseme Ukweli. Unajua sisi watu wa Mlima tunapenda amani sana, lakini hii maandamano iko na fujo mingi sana. Na ndio maana inakuwa ngumu watu wa Mlima kuhudhuria mikutano.”
Despite Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta’s position as Chair of Azimio and leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the party’s political party. Residents of Mount Kenya have been reluctant to join the Saba Saba protests.
Looking back in time, we see that Raila’s father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, is the current opposition leader. He had a hard time getting into the greater Mount Kenya Area. He made some attempts to secure the Mountain, but failed.
