Infertility in men is a taboo subject that many Kenyans don’t want to tackle or raise awareness about.
Maina Kageni spoke about it on the breakfast show stating that it is an issue that should be addressed publicly and no stigma should be attached to it.
“We have something going on and no one is talking about it. We are not ignoring it, we have a problem with male infertility. And Kenyan men don’t want to seek help. It has grown to epic levels. The amount of childlessness among married couples and they are refusing to seek treatment.”
The infertility rates reduced drastically from the year 2020 to date.
Mwalimu Kingangi said that there is really no need to go for a check-up, he is of the school of thought that if it is not broken, don’t fix it.
However, the reality on the ground is grim.
One listener admitted, “I am actually one of them, I consider it as a normal disability. One can not be blessed with everything in life. It is sad but that’s how life is.”
Netizens have realised that some of the products they buy for grooming themselves have chemicals that are causing infertility issues.
Here are more reactions.
Esther Jackie Agung: Most men will never admit even if they are the problem. They would rather blame their women than admit the truth. most married couples are struggling to get pregnant while akina sisi when you just try it for fun pap mimba ndio hiyo
Nduta Nduta: Infertility is not about erection but sperms are absent, weak or few. The man may be ejaculating but shooting blanks so men should accept the fact.
Mulahi J Oloo: Kwani having a kid is an achievement?! Adopt and move on
Simon Mutua: A real man would rather eat anything left on this earth than accept infertility. That data is null and void. Hao wapeleke ulemavu kwao.
Duncan Mogaka: Anybody may have a fertility problem ooh yes, but, what if your partner is taking P2 every day kama koo.
Catt Meashell: Most men will never admit to having a problem leave alone health-wise…why. They are brought up in a community where they are not supposed to voice out what’s going on with them… No man can say is broke, no man can accept the fact that is suffering from depression….they can’t even trust their wives to share what’s happening with them … N you expect them to be free to admit on fertility tests and medication???? they think they will have failed as a man.
