Kenya Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has finally explained in detail what happened moments after the Head of State appointed 8 people in the committee on National Debt Audit Taskforce.

The selected members included the LSK President Faith Odhiambo who has since turned down the president’s appointment.

Speaking to one of the media houses on Monday, July 8, 2024, Mwaura Kabata, the Deputy President of the Law Society of Kenya revealed that the appointment caught both the Society and Odhiambo off guard.

Kabata revealed that none of them expected the president to appoint the LSK president as they would have advised the president beforehand that it was unconstitutional.

In addition, Kabata revealed that Ruto’s appointment left the group in a limbo forcing them to have an impromptu emergency meeting to discuss the next step.

“As LSK we met on Friday at around 2 pm after we saw the Gazette Notice and decided it was not right for us to accept the appointment. We saw that the established task force was not lawful,” he stated.

However, Kabata clarified that despite LSK turning down the appointment, they are still willing to offer any assistance the president may need as long as it does not violate the 2010 constitution.
