He is probably the most unique presidential Aide-de-camp in the history of Kenya. His green beret makes his case different from all those who came before him.

When Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga succeeded Brigadier Timothy Stelu Lokolool as President William Ruto’s ADC, the first unique feature that surprised many Kenyans is his green beret. Why so?

Colonel Lengusuranga is from the Special Operations Regiment of the Kenya Army. This Special Force unit has its headquarters in Gilgil.

The members of the Special Operations Regiment are responsible for carrying out specialized operations, including: counter-insurgency, airborne operations, commando raids, reconnaissance ( investigations) and infiltration among other specialized warfare tactics. And the green beret is the unique identification feature for these specialized operations soldiers.

Members of this special force are trained at the Special Operations Training School in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

Members of the Specialized Operations Regiment were very influential when the government deployed Kenya Defence Forces soldiers to Mount Elgon to battle the Saboti Land Defence Forces insurgents.

Further, they were used in Somalia during the “Operation Linda Nchi”.

Colonel Lengusuranga who joined KDF in 1999, is perhaps the first man from the regiment to ever serve as an ADC.
