Roots Party aspirant George Wajackoya has been championing the legalization of weed.
According to him legalizing weed farming would help generate revenue which would, in turn, help Kenya offset its debt.
Unlike Kenya, there are countries where weed farming, selling, and consumption are legalized.
Some of these are
Canada
The Government of Canada legalized regulated and restricted access to cannabis on October 17, 2018. Under federal legislation: adults can possess up to 30 grams of legally-produced cannabis.
Adults can grow up to four cannabis plants per household.
Georgia, Malta, Mexico,
South Africa
In 2017, Lesotho became the first country on the continent to grant an administrative license for the commercial cultivation of marijuana for medical and scientific purposes.
Adults may, for their consumption, use, possess, and cultivate cannabis in private.
USA
As of 2022, nineteen states, two U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia have legalized the recreational use of cannabis. Thirty-seven states, four U.S. territories, and D.C. have legalized the medical use of the drug.
Rwanda
Cannabis in Rwanda is legal for medicinal purposes, but illegal for recreational purposes.
Malawi
Malawian cannabis, particularly the strain known as Malawi Gold, is internationally renowned as one of the finest Sativa strains from Africa. According to a World Bank report, it is among “the best and finest” marijuana strains in the world, generally regarded as one of the most potent psychoactive pure African sativas.
Zambia
Zambia legalized weed in 2019 for commercial purposes.
The production of Marijuana in Zambia is however restricted to exports and for medical purposes only.
Uruguay
Uruguayan law allows adult citizens and foreign residents who join a government registry to grow their pot, join a cannabis club or buy 40 grams a month at authorized pharmacies.
