Reports have surfaced that seven African countries have been disqualified from participating in the 2025 elections, mere days after Raila Odinga was announced as the official candidate for the African Union chairperson position. The seven countries that have been suspended, as per Lawyer Wahome Thuku, are comprised of six French-speaking countries and one bon French-speaking nation.

Their suspension is due to their involvement in military coups in recent years. Niger, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Sudan, and Gabon comprise the seven nations. Wahome Thuku has recently posed a question to Kenyans regarding their potential candidates for the election, had they not been suspended. At present, there are only three candidates who are interested in the African Union chairperson position.

The AU has suspended six French-speaking countries and one non-French country as a result of military coups. Consequently, they will be unable to vote in the AUC election in February 2025.” Niger, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Sudan, and Gabon comprise these nations. In the event that they were voting, which of the Kenyan and Djibouti candidates do you believe they would have voted for? Wahome stated.
