More than 270,000 candidates who scored grade C+ and above in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have qualified for direct university entry, sparking renewed interest in the best courses available for students with grades ranging from B- to B+.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), students with B+, B plain and B- have access to a wide range of competitive and marketable degree programmes offered by leading institutions such as the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, JKUAT, Moi University and KMTC.

 

For B+ students, top choices include Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Architecture, Actuarial Science, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications and Information Engineering, Geomatics, Mechanical Engineering, and Control and Instrumentation.

These programmes are considered highly competitive and are aligned with critical sectors such as healthcare, engineering, technology and finance.

Students with a B plain can pursue respected professional courses including Law, Medical Laboratory Science, Quantity Surveying, Agricultural Engineering, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Renewable Energy and Environmental Physics, Financial Engineering and Operations Research.

Meanwhile, candidates with a B- are not left behind, with options such as Nursing, Physical Therapy, Environmental Health, Dental Surgery, Computer Science, Construction Management, Real Estate, Animal Science, Industrial Mathematics and Professional Piloting available in various universities and colleges.

 

Career experts advise students to look beyond grades and focus on personal strengths, skills and long-term career trends.

With Kenya’s job market increasingly valuing technical skills and practical experience, selecting the right course remains a critical step for KCSE candidates as they prepare to apply through the 2026 KUCCPS placement cycle.
