Government senior advisor Moses Kuria has urged the civil society to take a leading role in addressing two pressing issues affecting the nation. Speaking today, Kuria emphasized the urgent need for a public petition that tackles unlawful abductions and promotes the responsible use of freedoms. He believes this is a critical time for the public to come together and address these matters to create a safer and more balanced society.
Kuria’s call focuses on finding solutions through collective action. He proposed that civil society organizations spearhead the initiative, gathering at least 10 million signatures. Such a large number of signatures would demonstrate a strong, united stand by citizens against the rising cases of illegal abductions, which have caused fear and uncertainty.
Unlawful abductions are a serious problem, as they undermine the rule of law and violate basic human rights. Victims and their families are left with lasting emotional and physical scars. Kuria highlighted that addressing this issue requires not just government action but also public involvement to hold all parties accountable and ensure justice is served.
However, Kuria also warned against the misuse of freedoms. He argued that while freedoms such as speech and assembly are vital for democracy, they must be exercised responsibly. Irresponsible actions, such as spreading false information or inciting violence, can harm society and disrupt peace. Kuria’s message is clear: freedoms come with duties, and citizens must be careful not to abuse them.
By combining these two goals into one petition, Kuria aims to foster a sense of shared responsibility among citizens. The proposed petition is not about taking sides but about finding common ground. It calls on everyone, regardless of their political or social views—to support efforts that protect human rights and promote responsible behavior.
