Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende has welcomed the recent decision by the Election Court on the scrutiny application linked to the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election petition.
In a statement issued after the ruling, Wamuthende, who is the 4th respondent in the case, said the court handled the matter in a clear and structured way. He noted that the decision helps to guide the process and bring clarity to the issues raised in the petition.
He moved to correct claims circulating in some sections that the court had ordered a full scrutiny across all polling stations. According to him, this is not accurate. The court only allowed a limited and targeted scrutiny.
The ruling permits full scrutiny and recount in only three polling stations out of the total 134. These are Kaungu Primary School and Gitiburi Primary School Polling Station 1 and 2. The rest of the polling stations mentioned in the application will undergo limited checks based on specific concerns raised before the court.
Wamuthende said this approach shows that the court carefully considered the evidence and focused only on areas that required further review. He added that this helps avoid unnecessary delays while still ensuring accountability.
He expressed confidence that the limited scrutiny exercise will confirm the credibility of the election process. He maintained that the outcome of the by-election reflects the true will of the voters in Mbeere North.
