After a four-week strike, lecturers across the country have decided to call off their industrial action following successful negotiations with President William Ruto’s government.

Members of the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) have agreed to accept the government’s offer of Ksh 4.3 billion.

UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga has instructed lecturers to resume classes immediately while continuing discussions to secure the remaining balance of the agreed Ksh 9 billion.

“Lecturers accept the Sh4.3B offer. SG Wasonga directs lecturers to go back to class as they negotiate the balance from the CBA agreed Sh9 billion,” wrote Citizen TV journalist Emmanuel Too.

Lecturers at public universities have been on strike for four weeks, leading to significant disruption in academic activities nationwide. They have vowed to continue the strike until the unimplemented aspects of the 2021-2025 agreement are fully addressed.

This decision will come as a relief to students in public universities who have been unable to attend classes due to the ongoing strikes.
