On Tuesday, February 20, the forensic unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations initiated an inquiry into tracing Kiptum’s activities leading up to his tragic demise.

Detectives have determined that, on the ill-fated day, Kiptum, along with his coach Gervais Hakizimana and a lady identified as Sharon Koskei, visited three different restaurants in Eldoret.

Among the establishments frequented were Talex Inn, Car Wash, and Wells Irish hotels in Rupa Mall.

Kiptum’s ultimate stop was at Grand Miamir Guesthouse, where he arrived at 9:12 pm and departed at 10:25 pm.

The late marathon record holder, as reported by the restaurant manager, ordered meat and boiled bananas.

According to available information from local media, Kiptum settled a bill of KSh 3,150, completing the payment via M-Pesa at 10:16 pm. The manager of the establishment stated, “He visited our hotel at around 9:12 pm and ordered meat and boiled bananas. After completing his meal, he left at around 10:25 pm.”

This development came at a time when the autopsy results on the late marathon world record holder were accepted by the family.

According to the results, the runner succumbed to severe head injuries resulting from the fatal accident that claimed his life.

Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor reported that the examination of Kiptum’s body revealed extensive injuries and fractures to his head, including fractures to the skull, ribs, and damage to his lungs.

The chief pathologist clarified that he was called in to conduct the postmortem due to speculation surrounding the death of the world’s fastest marathoner.

He affirmed that the injuries observed were consistent with those typically associated with the accident.

The postmortem was carried out by Dr. Oduor at the Eldoret Hospital morgue, in the presence of Kiptum’s father, Samson Cheruiyot, and a team of homicide officers from the DCI headquarters.

Following the postmortem, which spanned over two hours, Dr. Oduor briefed Kiptum’s family before addressing the media.
