The media industry has undergone revolutionary changes, and Kenyan journalists are making significant contributions. Some of our own journalists are making international headlines. Most of them began by reporting local news and worked their way up the ranks to achieve global recognition.
In this article, we’ll look at how Kenya’s five journalists are making international headlines.
1. Caro Robi
Carol Robi is a well-known Kenyan journalist who works as a BBC Swahili correspondent. Robi began her career as a voice journalist at KBC before moving to DW’s German side, where she was hired by the BBC. She is well-known for hosting the BBC’s ‘Amka’ na BBC morning show and ‘Dira ya Dunia’.
2. Esther Kahumbi
Esther works for the BBC and hosts Dira ya Dunia TV, which has helped to popularise BBC Swahili programming. She was previously a Citizen TV journalist before moving to London to work as a BBC reporter in October 2016.
3. Allan Namu
Allan previously worked for KTN as a special projects editor. He was well-known for his explosive investigative pieces with Mohammed Ali alias Jicho Pevu, the then-current Nyali Member of Parliament.
On Wednesday, January 4, the Thompson Reuters Foundation appointed the journalist as the Chief Course Instructor.
4. Edith Kimani
Edith Kimani joined Deutsche Welle in 2015, and she has been instrumental in making DW a popular media outlet in Africa. She relocated to Berlin, Germany, where she worked as a reporter and news anchor.
Her professional highlights include moderating two World Economic Forum debates and hosting the Global Media Forum and the G20 Compact for Africa Meeting.
5. Larry Madowo
One of Kenya’s most prominent journalists, Larry Madowo, serves as the host of African Voices Changemakers on CNN. He began his career at KTN as a trainee reporter at the age of 20 and rose to a glittering career.
In May 2021, the talented journalist joined CNN from the BBC, where he was an African correspondent for the media behemoth. Madowo was a recipient of Columbia University’s Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism.
