Three people were killed in a brutal family land dispute in Kaliet area, Narok County, after a disagreement over a one-acre parcel spiralled into violence, leaving residents horrified.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the Rogoi family homestead when a man identified as Victor allegedly attacked his brother with a panga, killing him on the spot. Moments later, village elder Aldon Kosgei, who had rushed in to mediate the dispute, was also slashed on the head and hand and later succumbed to his injuries. Residents said the elder had no role in the conflict and was only trying to restore peace.

Angered by the double killing, villagers descended on the suspect and lynched him. He later died from injuries sustained during the mob justice, bringing the death toll to three.

The bodies were transferred to Longisa Hospital mortuary in neighbouring Bomet County. Local elders revealed that the family had a long history of violent land disputes, with a previous disagreement also ending in death.

Confirming the incident, the area assistant chief condemned the killings and urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands, advising them to use legal channels, village elders, and the nyumba kumi system to resolve disputes peacefully.
