President William Ruto
On Wednesday 14th, president William Ruto made a development tour to Nakuru county where he launched several projects among them the affordable housing project.
After launching the projects, the president made a stopover at Naivasha town where he was welcomed by hundreds of the area residents. The Head of State did not shy away from defending the finance bill which is currently before the national assembly.
Ruto explained how the housing tax will be used to create employment. He went ahead and paused a question whether it is wrong for the government to introduce housing tax which will provide jobs.
The crowd responded by saying that there is no problem with the tax.
“Kuna shida tukieka hiyo housing tax vijana wapate kazi?” Paused the president. “Hakuna shida” responded the crowd.
Ruto stated that the political class can access mortgages at lower rates but the hustlers cannot and that’s why the government has proposed the housing tax. The first in command further cemented his commitment to implement the bottom up economic agenda.
The 2023/2024 finance bill proposals which is before parliament has divided the political class right in the middle. The Azimio members of parliament have vowed to vote against the bill while their counterparts in Kenya Kwanza have shown support to the bill. The opposition leaders have threatened to revive demonstrations if the bill passes.
