Kenyans have been left talking after Senior Counsel Paul Muite uncovered troubling and alarming insights regarding the Friday night nationwide blackout, placing the blame squarely on Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). In his latest social media post, Muite raised concerns about the secrecy surrounding the identities of the shareholders behind private companies, questioning why this information remains concealed and accusing KPLC of complicit behavior by ignoring these critical issues.

Muite has criticized KPLC for not only the frequent and unexplained power outages but also for the soaring electricity costs that have become unbearable for many Kenyan households. Muite also pointed out that while the blackouts are concerning, a more significant issue is the exorbitant charges imposed by Independent Power Producers (IPPs). He argued that these private entities are responsible for driving up electricity prices to unsustainable levels, disproportionately affecting Kenyans in rural areas.

“Beyond the unexplained power blackouts, IPPs are largely responsible for the exorbitant electricity bills. Why is there secrecy surrounding the shareholders of these limited companies? And why does KPLC turn a blind eye to this?” Paul Muite questioned.

His statements have fueled widespread concern among Kenyans, with many people now demanding increased transparency and accountability within the country’s energy sector. Below are some of the reactions from Kenyans on social media.
