Kisumu traders on Wednesday took to the streets protesting and calling for the ouster of the city manager Abala Wanga.
Carrying twigs and placards, the traders who marched through the Jomo Kenyatta highway chanted ‘Abala must go’ slogan saying enough is enough.
They matched up to the City Hall offices where police officers were manning the gates.
This is the second time the business community has held such protests within a week.
They claimed the city manager’s office has been single-handedly running the affairs of the town and failing to consult them of plans to carry out the reorganisations within the city.
The traders said that they would hold demos as long as Abala is in office and they won’t relent.
The business community further claimed that reallocation, and removal of the gazetted Bus Park to Mowlem without proper consultation, public participation is dangerous and may cause serious insecurity issues.
However, Abala Wanga maintained that he will not relent on plans to reorganise the city, which he said is being done within the confines of the law.
Wanga noted that they will reopen the Nyamasaria Bus Park on February 16 and decongest the current bus park.
“We are not closing the current bus park, but the Nyamasaria bus park is complementing the current bus park, and there are people who will go to Mowlem and others will remain,” he said.
