A key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s economic transformation agenda is ensuring access to affordable, high-quality healthcare. Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki has emphasized the significance of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as a crucial strategy for maintaining a healthy and productive population. So far, 19.5 million Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA), marking substantial progress toward achieving UHC.

To strengthen the implementation of Taifa Care, the administrationā€™s flagship health insurance program, the government is introducing targeted policy and administrative measures. These efforts aim to enhance the capacity of healthcare institutions, enabling them to provide essential services sustainably. Additionally, the Ministry of Health is reviewing the Means Testing Tool in collaboration with key stakeholders. The objective is to ensure the tool is fair, accurate, and effectively serves the needs of all Kenyans. Over the past five months, feedback from citizens and experts has been integrated to refine the tool further.

The meeting brought together key leaders, including Principal Secretaries, Governors under the Council of Governors Chairman Ahmed Abdullahi, members of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, and Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa. Discussions focused on reviewing progress, addressing challenges, and planning the next steps for UHC implementation. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, reaffirmed the governmentā€™s dedication to healthcare as a driver of economic growth. By prioritizing UHC, the administration aims to enhance productivity, promote inclusive development, and ease the financial strain of healthcare on households.
