Outspoken Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino was, on Monday morning, involved in an ugly online spat with nominated Murang’a County MCA Sharleen Wambui Maina. This is after the firebrand lawmaker criticised Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The online tiff began when Babu Owino called out Sakaja, accusing him of embezzling billions meant for development in Nairobi County. Sakaja had posted photos on his verified social media accounts showing him participating in an overnight cleaning exercise with Nairobi’s “Green Army” in the Central Business District (CBD).
Sakaja captioned the photos: “A great and fulfilling night cleaning the CBD with the Green Army. Hii lazima iwork. Goodnight and good morning.”
In response, Babu Owino, who has expressed interest in succeeding Sakaja in the 2027 elections, posted a comment accusing the governor of stealing billions while spending just a small amount on street cleaning. He pointed out the poor state of Nairobi’s infrastructure and mocked Sakaja’s leadership.
“You have stolen billions and only spending 20K to buy water to mop streets.Where’s the money meant for development?” read part of Babu’s response to Sakaja.
Babu’s response attracted massive comments from Kenyans including one from nominated Murang’a MCA Sharleen Wambui Maina, an ardent supporter of Sakaja and the Kenya Kwanza government. The nominated MCA responded to Babu Owino’s remarks, urging him to heal and move on.
Babu, who has never shied away from online confrontations, retaliated with a personal attack on Sharleen, questioning her intelligence despite her beauty.
The exchange between the Embakasi East MP and the nominated MCA gained significant attention on social media, with over two hundred and fifty netizens commenting on Babu’s harsh response, some even encouraging him to continue.
