Jose Gatutura is a popular Kikuyu benga musician and a social media influencer who is always well grounded to be distracted by naysayers.
Some hours ago he was live on Inooro tv where he talked about the shows he has ever performed out of the country. He said he has performed in many countries since Kikuyu people are all over the world and they are very successful there.
He made it clear that they don’t prepare shows outside the country but they are ussually invited and they leave the country under work permit of either one month, three months or six months. He said he ussually go for only one month since he feels he should hold more shows in Kenya since that is where he belongs.
When he was asked how they are received by Kikuyu people in other countries he said it is the best since they love them. He added that no urban musician either from any country in Africa can attract more fans than a Kikuyu musician. He gave an example of a show he held in Southampton which made him believe they are loved by their fellow tribesmen in other countries.
The hall he was holding the show in was used by Tanzanian bongo musician harmonize the previous day and the show wasn’t full. During his show the same hall was full to capacity to a point one hundred and fifty people were locked out since police said the hall could not accommodate more than those who were in.
