Kikuyu gospel musician Dennis Mutara has finally been discharged from Kenyatta University teaching and referral hospital where he was admitted after his health condition worsened.
Philanthropist Karangu wa Muraya was the one who rallied fellow musicians and took him to the hospital after he received information from his family members that he needed urgent medical help.
Dennis Mutara, one of the most talented and popular Kikuyu gospel singers, had earlier been discharged from rehab after a three-month therapy.
Mutaraâs journey to recovery began in March 2021, when he was admitted to Avenue Hospital for detox. He had been involved in an accident in 2020, which affected his health and finances.
His condition worsened when he appeared in an interview with content creator Jeremy Damaris, where he denied using alcohol but admitted that he needed help. The interview, which went viral on YouTube but was later removed after some Kikuyu gospel singers criticized it for being insensitive.
However, the interview also sparked a wave of sympathy and support for Mutara from his fans and friends, who rallied to raise funds for his rehab. Murangâa Woman Rep Sabina Chege paid his hospital bill, while fellow gospel singers went live on Facebook urging fans to contribute more than Sh500,000 for his rehab.
Mutara is known for his hit songs such as âWendo Wakuâ, âNdi Uria Wakeâ, âNjata Yakwaâ, and âNgoro Yakwaâ. He has been in the gospel music scene for over a decade and has won several awards and accolades. He is regarded as one of the best vocalists and composers in the Kikuyu gospel genre.
Mutaraâs story is an inspiration to many people who are struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse. It shows that with Godâs grace, professional help, and social support, one can overcome any challenge and reclaim their life.
