CS Namwamba eulogized the late Marathoner as an astute athlet, a complete gentleman and a great family man Kenya has lost.

President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have led the government’s top echelons to Chepkorio, Elgeyo Marakwet County to attend Kelvin Kitum’s funeral service.

Initially, the burial of Kiptum who died in a road accident on the night of February was scheduled for tomorrow but the event has been brought forward by a day to allow President Ruto to attend since he has another national engagement on Saturday.

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba ushered in the President, his deputy and other officials into the venue of the funeral service.

Kiptum’s body was removed from the Eldoret Hospital mortuary yesterday and thousands of mourners thronged the streets of Eldoret town, all through to Iten, some following the procession singing hymns as they paid homage to the global athletics star who had a lot in store to offer the world before his tragic demise on the night of the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Ruto and his entourage, clad in black suits, walked into the venue and went to the tent where the casket bearing the remains of the World Marathon record holder was placed.
